Parts - Components
All components of the air sterilizer are off the shelf parts. You can order all parts needed from common stores such as:
Home Depot, Lowes, most hardware stores; All HVAC + electrical Components
Walmart
Output Manifold Screen: 3/8 Inch 18 gauge galvanized - picture downward view
Can be made of any material { Not exposed to UV radiation } Screen must have large enough openings. Resistance to Air Flow is proportional to the velocity raised to the third power - Velocity Cubed ........ STEM connection
{ View looking down sterilizer }
Output Manifold: 8 Inch to 7 Inch Reducer - HVAC,
currently galvanized steel. Can be plastic, Aluminum,... ect.
{not exposed to UV light... which damages plastic}
Stock HVAC component. Available at:
HVAC STORES: Home Depot; Lowe's; Grainger; + more
In-Line Duct Fan: 8 Inch diameter
Wrapped in bronze vinyl material

12 Inch "Round"- It is called a round ... It's a pipe ... 100% hollow!
Available at HVAC stores. "12" HVAC Round"
Currently making 12 Inch round - 0.019 Inch Aluminum sheet -Roofing Stock
Must be made of metal due to UV exposure
Skirt = Air Input Manifold: 14 Inch to 12 Inch Reducer - HVAC,
Must be metal - UV exposure -currently galvanized steel.
{exposed to UV light... which damages plastic}

Wooden Base: Currently 5/8 " sub-floor
Cut 4 corners yielding an octagon shape.
The base is wide open with respect to design. There is the possibility of a weak reflection of UV light from the base.
A wide variety of paint colors and other materials can be used to fully absorb the UV light reflection.
The pads "feet" seen at the bottom are made from 1-3/8" Inch punch bar.
1-3/8 Inch Zinc-Plated Punch Flat Bar
6 - legs formed: Cut 7.5 Inch length + two 45 degree bends
Punch bar so no hole drilling needed
Specialized tool used to consistently and easily make 45 degree bends { made using 45 degree angle brackets }
Early Model: 10 Inch Fan 12 Inch exposure chamber running in an old musty basement.
You can just make out the purple light shining on the base. That light is a by product of the UV lamp.
Some materials used for the base can reflect a small portion of the UV light.
UV light is neither seen by the human eye or the camera.
UV Lamp Holder
Inside the Sterilizer
To the left we see the somewhat enigmatic UV Lamp holder.
The lamp is being held upside down. The UV source pictured is a Low Pressure Hg Mercury Lamp. The units built will use a 60 Watt LED UV source - bulb.
This bulb is used for testing purposes only.
STEM Connection: LED UV light is extremely difficult to detect. UV light from a Mercury lamp is easily detected. Can anybody figure out why? Think Polarization.
The frame of the lamp holder is made from square metal rods. Currently the vertical rods are made from 3/16" Inch aluminum. The horizontal stabilizers are made from 1/4" Inch brass. The pieces are held in place with fine metal wire. The pieces are then secured with JB-Weld Steel Epoxy. The rods can be any type of metal.
The pads "feet" seen at the bottom are made from 1-3/8" Inch punch bar.

Pictured Left is an earlier model of the lamp holder mounted on a wooden base.
Seen is a 60 Watt UV lamp pointing downward.
Toward the top of the lamp can be seen a copper color disk. The disk is a shield against UV light traveling upwards and out of the sterilizer top.
